About the role

  • The Project Engineer applies engineering project management principles to ensure engineered products are safe, constructible, cost‑effective, and aligned with project scope, schedule, and budget objectives.
  • Candidates will be hired at Project Engineer I, II, or III level depending on experience, technical depth, and leadership capability.

Responsibilities

  • This role is responsible for managing engineering activities across the project life cycle, from conceptual engineering through detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and transition to operations.
  • Manages engineering scope and supports detailed design through all phases of the project life cycle
  • Applies engineering project management practices during conceptual engineering, detailed design, constructability reviews, change control, testing, acceptance, and transition to operations
  • Works closely with the Project Manager and project controls team to support schedule, cost, and change management
  • Assists with constructability reviews and design issue resolution

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET‑accredited university or international equivalent
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from ABET-accredited university or international equivalent
  • Minimum 4-7 years of engineering experience in utility, construction, or industrial environments
  • Minimum 10+ years of engineering experience in utility‑based or power generation environments
  • Knowledge of standard computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in project management principles
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work in adverse field conditions, including elevation, weather, and industrial environments
  • Ability to travel as required to support project goals

Nice to have

  • Experience with electric transmission, distribution, or power generation facilities
  • Experience working at generating stations or major capital project organizations
  • Advanced knowledge of fossil, hydro, and/or renewable power generation systems
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or active pursuit
  • Expressed interest or demonstrated potential for future project or people leadership roles

Skills

  • Promotes and ensures a safe working environment in both office and field settings
  • Ensures engineering deliverables meet company standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements
  • Monitors engineering contractor and AE firm performance for scope, schedule, cost, and quality
  • Applies product and project risk management techniques to reduce technical, schedule, and cost risk
  • Effectively communicates engineering status, issues, and performance metrics to project leadership
  • Utilizes engineering and project management tools, PMIS, and performance dashboards to monitor progress
  • Assists with RFIs, technical resolutions, and engineering issue close‑out

  • The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
