About the role

  • This role is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) ready to step into a leadership-focused role managing and delivering municipal infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead impactful infrastructure projects from concept to construction
  • Project Management: Plan, manage, and deliver Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects from concept through construction
  • Design Oversight & QA/QC: Review engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance throughout all project phases
  • Consultant Coordination: Procure and manage consultants; coordinate with regulatory and permitting agencies
  • Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with internal departments, external partners, and present to public forums including City Council
  • The Engineering Design Division of Ventura's Public Works Department manages the planning, design, and delivery of the City's Council-approved 5-year Capital Improvement Program.
  • The department has been APWA-accredited since 2014 and utilizes modern project management tools, including Trimble Unity Construct and Workday, to deliver high-quality public infrastructure projects.
  • The City of Ventura is seeking a Civil Engineer with project management experience to join our Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Design Team within the Public Works Department.
  • Reporting to the Principal Civil Engineer, you will lead a small team and manage projects through all phases, including planning, environmental review, design coordination, bidding, and construction support.

Requirements

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license
  • Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in the State of California is required at the time of appointment

Compensation

  • Senior Civil Engineer - $122,342.90 - $163,941.44 Annually DOQ
