About the role
- About the job Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Manage multiple projects and suppliers, negotiating a variety of contracts and agreements, from statements of work to master supply agreements, to secure favorable pricing and terms and ensure supply assurance at scale.
- Lead cross-functional teams through the supplier selection process for new platforms and partner with key stakeholders to develop and execute strategies that balance innovation, time-to-market, cost, quality, and delivery.
- Mitigate supply chain risks and measure partner performance through regular business reviews to ensure quality and continuous improvement.
- Maintain a high level of industry expertise, keeping current on supplier and market conditions to inform sourcing strategies and negotiations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering field or equivalent practical experience.
- 7 years of experience in procurement and supply chain management.
- Experience in commodity management or sourcing within the optical transceivers or transmission category, including agreement negotiation and supplier development.

Nice to have
- Master's degree in a technical or engineering field or MBA.
- 7 years of experience in optics manufacturing and optical supply chain processes, and strategic business planning and execution.
- Experience with data center, networking and optics commodities.
- Experience with spreadsheet software, SQL, and scripting.
- Experience with new and evolving optics technologies in the data center space.
- Experience with optical transceiver manufacturing processes.
- Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams.
- The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google's bottom line.
