About the role
- Acts as a project or system leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers on the project or within the system

Responsibilities
- Collaborates with management to set/improve standards for engineering rigor
- Lead the design, development, and evolution of self-service campaign tools for PayPal and Venmo marketers.
- Set technical direction, lead large-scale projects, coordinate engineering efforts, and align teams toward shared objectives.
- Drive architectural decisions and establish engineering standards, including coding conventions, design patterns, review practices, and long-term technical strategy.
- Partner with backend, platform, infrastructure, and product teams to deliver scalable, end-to-end solutions.
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and day-to-day problem solving while elevating overall team performance.
- Resolve complex technical challenges and develop reusable solutions while balancing performance, scalability, maintainability, reliability, and risk.

Requirements
- PayPal has been revolutionizing commerce globally for more than 25 years.
Nice to have
- 8+ years of relevant software engineering experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated success mentoring engineers and improving team performance through guidance, feedback, and technical leadership.
- Sound judgment in ambiguous or high-stakes technical situations, with the ability to balance competing priorities and tradeoffs.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to translate technical goals into actionable business and engineering outcomes.
- The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring.

- San Jose, California: ($176,500.00 - $262,350.00 Annually)
