About the role

  • PROMOTIONAL Either: a) One (1) year of permanent competitive status as an Energy Engineer; or OR b) Two (2) years of permanent competitive status as an Electrical Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises an engineering staff in the preparation and design of systems, plans, cost estimates, and contract specifications for the construction and alteration of power distribution and control systems in County buildings and sewerage facilities
  • Prepares bid specifications on building supplies, equipment and outside labor used in the maintenance and repair of power and control systems in County facilities

  • b) Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and twelve (12) years experience in the design and/or installation of electrical systems and equipment, including four (4) years as a Licensed Professional Engineer;
  • Thorough knowledge of the planning, design and construction of power and control systems in buildings and sewerage facilities
  • Thorough knowledge of the procedures of inspection of building electrical equipment
  • Good knowledge of applicable laws and regulatory codes on building electrical construction
  • Ability to plan, design, and prepare and review engineering plans and specifications for power and control systems in buildings and sewerage facilities

Requirements

  • Does related work as required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principals and practices of electrical engineering
  • Thorough knowledge of the principals and practices of electrical engineering specification writing
  • Thorough knowledge of construction estimating, including the relative cost and useful life of materials
  • Good knowledge of programmable logic controllers and their application in control systems
  • Good knowledge of modern developments, current literature and sources of information applicable to the field of power and control engineering
  • Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and review the work of professional, technical and clerical personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports
  • a) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, and eight (8) years of experience in the design and/or installation of electrical systems and equipment, including four (4) years as a Licensed Professional Engineer;

Compensation

  • $84,616 to 140,392
