  • Position Details The Campus Safety Department at The University of Tampa has a position for a qualified Campus Safety Officer on the 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. shift.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain building and room security.
  • Ability to climb stairs to the top of a nine-story building; make judgment calls while under pressure/duress; carry and use, if necessary, a firearm while under pressure/duress appropriately.

Requirements

  • Ability to de-escalate conflict situations and a demeanor that is perceived as professional yet calm and relaxed.
  • Must be able to exert appropriate strength when necessary.
  • Excellent clear and concise communication skills required.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Experience in using various Safety Department equipment (two-way radio, cameras, computers, etc.).
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build working partnerships with faculty, staff, and students as well as external parties including neighbors/local residents, city officials, municipal/county/state police agencies, local health services, first responders, and members of the media.
  • A high level of professional ethics and personal integrity.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must qualify for Florida Department of State Class "D" and "G" licenses.

  • Apprehend and detain, if necessary, suspected law violators which may include physical exertion.
  • Must successfully pass a personal background, criminal records and psychological check.

Nice to have

  • Law enforcement/military police experience preferred.
  • Experience in a college or university preferred.
