- Position Details The Campus Safety Department at The University of Tampa has a position for a qualified Campus Safety Officer on the 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. shift.
Responsibilities
- Maintain building and room security.
- Ability to climb stairs to the top of a nine-story building; make judgment calls while under pressure/duress; carry and use, if necessary, a firearm while under pressure/duress appropriately.
Requirements
- Ability to de-escalate conflict situations and a demeanor that is perceived as professional yet calm and relaxed.
- Must be able to exert appropriate strength when necessary.
- Excellent clear and concise communication skills required.
- Must have a valid Florida driver's license and safe driving record.
- Experience in using various Safety Department equipment (two-way radio, cameras, computers, etc.).
- Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.

- Strong interpersonal skills to build working partnerships with faculty, staff, and students as well as external parties including neighbors/local residents, city officials, municipal/county/state police agencies, local health services, first responders, and members of the media.
- A high level of professional ethics and personal integrity.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must qualify for Florida Department of State Class "D" and "G" licenses.

- Apprehend and detain, if necessary, suspected law violators which may include physical exertion.
- Must successfully pass a personal background, criminal records and psychological check.
Nice to have
- Law enforcement/military police experience preferred.
- Experience in a college or university preferred.
