About the role

ABOUT THE JOB The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Senior Accountant (Accounts Payable) in the Finance Department of the ACLU's National office in New York, NY.
It is represented by ACLU Staff United (ASU).

Maintain confidentiality of information related to sensitive financial and board related matters.
The Senior Accountant job responsibilities are generally focused on one or two functional areas, but cross-training to support the work of additional functional areas is also done as needed.
Maintain an organized and up-to-date recording system for paper and electronic files, utilizing established internal best practices and document warehouses for file storage

Strong understanding of basic accounting fundamentals with the ability to apply them to daily work
Demonstrated ability to review, organize and reconcile financial information with accuracy
Ability to learn and navigate accounting systems, financial tools and new software and applications quickly
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, vlookups, if statements)

Consistent with our compensation philosophy, there is a set salary for each role based on geographic work location.
The annual salary for this position is $112,584. (Level H), reflecting the salary of a position based in New York, NY.
Salaries are subject to a regional pay adjustment if authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
Assist with preparing monthly and annual closing entries including recurring entries, reclassifications, allocations and intercompany transactions.
Prepare schedules and other reports for annual audit and tax filings.
Perform periodic account reconciliations and analyses (monthly, quarterly or annually, as applicable).
Collaborate with AP staff to prepare annual 1099 filings, including the review of vendor records for accuracy.
