About the role

  • Definition and Purpose Under the supervision of the Assistant Director—Recreational Programs and Facility Operations, the Intermittent Aquatics Instructors teach a variety of classes currently offered within the Group Exercise and Instructional Class Program. The staff is responsible for developing individual lesson plans, being familiar with various styles
  • of class formats offered, supervising class participants, and leading instructional sessions. This position is based at the Cal Poly Maritime Academy on the Cal Poly Solano Campus in Vallejo, CA.

  • Professional instructor certification in related field or prior training preferred Ability to be highly organized and have good planning skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and those with special limitations or needs.
  • Extensive knowledge of classes being taught.
  • Understanding of current trends in area of expertise.
  • Previous experience in supervising and meeting participants in an instructional environment.
  • Ability to learn new formats.
  • Completion of Child Abuse Training prior to instructing any programs involving minors.

Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Compensation

  • $16.90 per hour - $16.90 per hour for meeting and prep time, $22.50 per hour - $22.50 per hour for instruction time.
  • Benefits Social Security (FICA) Unemployment Insurance Sick Leave Workers Compensation Insurance **Intermittent employees may not work more than 1,000 hours during any fiscal year (7/1-6/30) and are hired on an "as needed" basis only.
  • $22.50 per hour while instructing, $16.90 per hour for meeting and prep time.
