About the role

  • The Department of Mathematical, Information and Computer Sciences is currently accepting applications for adjunct faculty members who can teach any of visual programming, HTML, PHP and Python.
  • The courses meet in the evening one night per week.
  • PLNU adjunct pay: PLNU pays adjuncts at a per unit rate.

Responsibilities

  • When beginning your application, be prepared to answer these Adjunct questions and upload the following documents:
  • Adjuncts are also expected to have knowledge of ways to instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students as well as the ability to write syllabi and follow course plans. ​

Requirements

  • If hired, official transcripts will be required from all undergraduate and graduate universities attended before a contract is issued.
  • Adjunct faculty members must have knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to effective teaching in undergraduate courses as well as teaching in computer labs.
  • Masters in a relevant discipline from an accredited college or university..
  • Commitment to teaching excellence required. A minimum of one year teaching experience in higher education preferred.
  • Ability to learn relevant sections of Point Loma Nazarene University's online integrated database system for student grading and the University's learning management system.
  • Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNU's Community Life Covenant.
  • The job offer is contingent on the successful completion of a background check. PLNU will consider qualified applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with state and local "Fair Chance" laws.

  • Industrial programming experience preferred.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence required.

Compensation

  • PLNU adjunct pay: PLNU pays adjuncts at a per unit rate.
  • Using a 4-unit full semester appointment as a pay guide, the adjunct pay is approximately $8,900.
  • The units will determine the actual salary.
