About the role
- We are a small, high-ownership team, so this role spans the full commercial surface of the business: product management, marketing, e-commerce and commercial operations, and customer success.
- This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to combine strategic product thinking with operational execution.
- You will be expected to set the direction for your product area, then roll up your sleeves to make it happen-writing PRDs, talking to customers, pricing kits, fixing a stuck order, and shipping a launch campaign all in the same week.
Responsibilities
- Roadmap Ownership: Define and own the product roadmap for your area (e.g., cell-free protein synthesis, PichiaWorks, proteins and enzymes)
- Requirements & Specs: Write clear product requirements (PRDs, user stories, success criteria) and partner with science and operations teams to translate them into manufacturable, automation-friendly products.
- Market & Competitive Intelligence: Build and maintain a current view of the competitive landscape, pricing, and emerging customer segments
- Launch Ownership: Drive product launches end-to-end-launch plan, readiness checklist, cross-functional coordination, internal enablement, and post-launch tracking.
- Positioning & Messaging: Develop positioning, value propositions, and messaging tailored to target customer segments, and translate them into customer-facing assets in partnership with marketing.
- Storefront Ownership: Own the e-commerce experience on the Reagents storefront, including product pages, SKU setup, content quality, and conversion optimization (Shopify/ERP).
- Order & Fulfillment Operations: Partner with Foundry operations, supply chain, and shipping to ensure orders flow accurately, cold-chain requirements are met, and shipments dispatch on time
Requirements
- 3-5 years of product management, product marketing, or commercial experience, ideally in life sciences tools, reagents, diagnostics, or scientific instrumentation
- Track record of owning a product or product line end-to-end, from discovery and roadmap through launch and post-launch growth
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to write professionally and clearly to a scientific (including PhD-level) audience
Nice to have
- Prior experience launching reagent or kit products, ideally in protein expression, enzymes, cell-free systems, or AI-driven protein screening workflows
- Hands-on experience with e-commerce platforms (e.g., Shopify), ERPs, and CRM tools (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce)
- Experience with cold-chain logistics, demand planning, or other operational aspects of a physical-product business
- Bench experience in molecular or cell biology, biochemistry, or synthetic biology
- Understanding of synthetic biology, drug discovery and development, or the broader life sciences tools market
- Strong presentation (powerpoint or gslides) and spreadsheet skills (excel or gsheets)
- Base pay is ultimately determined based on a candidate's skills, expertise, and experience.
- Ginkgo has implemented a return to office policy effective October 1, 2025.
Compensation
- Total compensation for this role is market driven, and includes both salary and company stock awards.
