About the role

This is not a standard Senior Software Development Engineer role.
We're looking for engineers who can turn ambiguous problems into shipped, measurable, and reliable products.
You will take loosely defined ideas and turn them into clear plans with tradeoffs, edge cases, success metrics, and a path to production.

Significant experience building and shipping software in product environments where engineers own work beyond implementation
Strong engineering fundamentals, including system design, testing strategy, debugging, maintainability, and operational readiness
Experience collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and data partners on customer-facing or workflow-heavy products
Clear written and verbal communication in English, including the ability to write specs, explain tradeoffs, and drive decisions asynchronously

A track record of owning features or product areas from concept through launch and post-launch iteration
Strong product and business judgment, including the ability to connect technical decisions to customer impact and company goals

In California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $160,900.00 - $257,100.00 annually.
The base pay range is specific to these locations and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.

Engineers on this team work closely with product managers, designers, and data partners with opportunities to help define problems, shape solutions, and influence what gets built.
On the Metro team, you'll build the systems behind how Zillow customers find help, schedule tours, and connect with agents.
