About the role
- Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS (SSMA) is seeking a Learning Specialist /Special Education Teacher for students in grades PK 3 - 6.
- The Learning Specialist /Special Education Teacher's broad area of responsibility is to ensure that each student will learn and flourish academically, socially, and emotionally in a nurturing and responsive Montessori learning environment.
- Each student, guided by the Learning Specialist,is expected to achieve at a high academic and personal level, according to his/her potential.
Responsibilities
- Implements each student's IEP in the inclusion special needs setting, and in support of and in cooperation with the classroom Guide/Teacher(s).
Requirements
- Use special programs platforms with proficiency and/or attend OSSE trainings
- Ability to provide services to all children and families with respect and dignity
- Proven ability to administer, interpret, and analyze formal and informal assessments, such as ASQ, Brigance, Wilson, Woodcock-Johnson, Ortho-Gillingham, and similar tools.
- Demonstrated data literacy and ability to use assessment outcomes to inform instruction, progress monitoring, and IEP development.
- Maintain confidentiality
- Excellent listening and communication skills
- Model Montessori 'grace and courtesy' curriculum
- A passion for teaching and working in and with diverse communities
- A passion for growing independent, confident, and intellectually curious children
- A love of children, sel,f and a sense of humor
- Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree required; Masters, and additional certification or coursework in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), reading (K-6), autism spectrum disorders, or emotional/behavioral disabilities highly preferred.
- MUST hold a valid teacher's license/certification in special education or be eligible to qualify for one in the District of Columbia
Nice to have
- Bachelor's degree required
- Masters, and additional certification or coursework in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), reading (K-6), autism spectrum disorders, or emotional/behavioral disabilities highly preferred.
- Advanced credentials (e.g., BCBA certification, reading specialist endorsement, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
- Passing PRAXIS score preferred.
Compensation
- Salary range at $61,400 - 95,100 will be commensurate with degree, certification and years of experience

- Position Summary:
- Please note: The position may require supporting student's both in/person and virtually.
- Typical working hours are Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm.
