About the role

- The Staff Android Engineer is responsible for shaping the technical direction of our mobile and CTV Android applications.
- This role requires deep Android expertise, strong software architecture skills, and a passion for mentoring engineers while driving engineering excellence across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, and development of scalable Android applications using modern Android technologies and best practices.
- Build performant, reliable, and maintainable features for large-scale consumer streaming applications.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Backend, QA, and DevOps throughout the product lifecycle.
- Drive technical strategy, establish engineering standards, and influence platform direction.
- Mentor and coach engineers through technical leadership, design reviews, and code reviews.
- Champion adoption of AI-assisted development tools across the team, and identify opportunities to build internal developer tools and automations, including AI-powered solutions, to improve engineering workflows.
- Own application performance, stability, and crash-free rate targets, including modularization, build performance, and adoption of modern tools such as Baseline Profiles and Jetpack Compose.
- 7+ years professional experience developing native Android applications using Kotlin.
Requirements
- Experience with Jetpack Compose and traditional Android UI frameworks.
- Strong understanding of mobile application performance optimization, debugging, profiling, and memory management.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile software development practices.
- Experience with video playback, DRM, offline downloads, and media analytics.
- Strong knowledge of Kotlin Coroutines, Flow, dependency injection (Hilt/Dagger), and asynchronous programming.
Skills
- Evaluate emerging Android technologies and recommend adoption where appropriate.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Compensation
- Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $143,000.00-205,000.00 annually.
