About the role

  • It involves creating and maintaining budgets, tracking actual spending against budgeted amounts, and identifying variances to guide corrective actions.
  • The employee also analyzes financial data to uncover trends, assess performance, and recommend cost-saving or efficiency measures.

Responsibilities

  • Work with System Office staff and Minneapolis College information technology staff to maintain database systems, testing, and implementing improvements for financial software.
  • The Budget Officer is to support the finance department in managing and optimizing the institution's financial resources through budget planning, monitoring, and reporting, while providing data-driven analysis to inform decision-making.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of progressive experience in accounting, budget planning, or financial analysis.
  • A Master's degree may substitute for 18 months of experience
  • a Bachelor's degree may substitute for one year of experience
  • an Associate's degree may substitute for six months of experience.
  • The degree must be in a related field to the position.
  • Experience in analyzing complex financial data, managing forecasting processes, and ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in Excel, SQL, data visualization tools, and financial reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and government accounting standards board (GASB).
  • Current and former employees must be in good standing with Minneapolis College to be considered for the position.

Compensation

  • Accounting Officer Principal: $32.97 - $48.60 hourly / $68,841 - $101,477 annually.
  • Assist in preparing annual operating and capital budget proposals by compiling and analyzing data from various departments.
