About the role

  • Job Profile: Academic Advisor 1 Job Family: Academic Advising Time Type: Full time Max Pay - Depends on experience: $55,000.00 USD Annual Apply before 11:59 PM Arizona time the day before the posted End Date.
  • Utilizes a wide range of software, student development theory, and retention-focused strategies.
  • Please note this position is in person at the Downtown Phoenix Campus.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct student-facing support to undergraduate students enrolled at the university.
  • Working under direct supervision to support students by performing specific, articulated goals and outcomes
  • Provides individual and group academic advising and interacts with graduate students to support academic success. In addition, they work closely with Master's-level and Ph.D. students, faculty, and staff to support academic success
  • Utilizes collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, by writing, and by phone; establishes and maintains effective professional working relationships
  • Regularly monitors assessment resources to refine and build effective practices
  • Works collaboratively and collegially with academic units and services throughout the University to facilitate comprehensive student support

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Able to learn and use multiple systems simultaneously (such as student record databases, customer relationship management systems, degree progress tools, appointment systems, and analytics software/tools).
  • Utilizes collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, by writing, and by phone
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, faculty, students, administration, and others
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASU academic structure and organization
  • Experience using: Student information computer systems (i.e., PeopleSoft, DARS, etc.)
  • Experience using: Microsoft Office Applications (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Monitors student academic progress and program effectiveness using various technology-based tools (such as degree progress, customer relationship management, and analytics software/tools) and the application of retention-focused strategies and relevant advising/student development/engagement theories
  • Works to ensure ongoing satisfaction for students with their program and degree progress and provides follow-up to ensure satisfaction with and effectiveness of services.
  • Bachelor's degree in Counseling or higher education, preferred
  • Experience working with students in higher education/college-level academic advising
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated use of problem-solving skills; critical thinking; time management skills; and having to rapidly adapt and effectively utilize new technology, practices, and policies
  • Organizational experience while prioritizing multiple tasks in a fast-paced and service-focused environment; detail-oriented

Skills

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and methods of evidence-based academic advising strategies
  • Ability to utilize various software, advising theories, and retention-focused strategies
  • Ability to understand general student requests for information and assistance
  • Demonstrates how to escalate urgent/conflicting requests
  • Applies collaborative approaches and strategies to devise solutions for student requests
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working in an environment focused on continuous improvement and innovation
  • Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and are subject to the resolution of conflicts.

Compensation

  • $51,000 - $55,000 per year; depending on experience
