Responsibilities

  • Initiate and support emergency response efforts
  • Maintain accurate reports and documentation
  • This position helps maintain a safe and secure campus environment by patrolling assigned university facilities, identifying security risks, enforcing university policies, and responding to incidents.
  • Security Officers work closely with BYU Police and other campus partners to protect people and property while supporting emergency response efforts.
  • Assignments may include Building Security, the Museum of Art (MOA), Mission Training Center (MTC), Harold B.
  • Lee Library (HBLL), Broadcasting Building (BYUB), Motion Picture Studios (MPS), and the Goshen Facility.

Requirements

  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays, and in all weather conditions
  • Working knowledge of security practices, emergency response procedures, and applicable laws
  • Proficiency with security equipment, computer systems, and communication devices
  • Strong judgment, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm under pressure

Nice to have

  • Previous security or law enforcement experience
  • Supervisory or field training experience
  • Knowledge of crime prevention principles and university security operations

Compensation

  • The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate's job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors.

Benefits

  • Additionally, if you contribute 5%, BYU adds an additional 4% (Rehires may qualify for different retirement plans)
  • May be eligible for tuition benefits after two years
