About the role
- The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.
- The project will strengthen Ontario's economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.
- This role ensures the reliability, safety, and efficiency of MSVs that transport segments, materials, equipment, and personnel throughout the underground tunnel system.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and service hydraulic, pneumatic, compressed‑air, and electrical systems found in MSV equipment.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, lubrication, adjustments, and component replacements to ensure equipment reliability in continuous tunnelling operations.
- Support MSV operators with troubleshooting, equipment configuration, and resolving operational performance issues.
- Document repairs, service reports, and parts usage following maintenance protocols.
- Maintain tidy and safe underground work areas, including equipment bays, maintenance stations, and tunnel access routes.
- Strong knowledge of MSV components and systems, including power units, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmission/drives, chassis, and bogeys/wheel modules.
Requirements
- Completion of a 3-4‑year apprenticeship program in industrial mechanic/millwrighting or 5+ years of experience in industrial machinery repair with industry training courses.
- Understanding of underground rescue procedures, emergency protocols, and air‑monitoring principles (asset but often required).
Nice to have
- Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) trade certification (voluntary but preferred in Ontario).
Compensation
- Up to 57,000 more jobs accessible by transit (in 45 minutes or less) for Toronto residents.
- This is a unionized role; therefore, the salary will be the according to the Schedule and Group per the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
