About the role

  • Lynk is the inventor of satellite direct to device or D2D technology, and has the world's only commercial license from the FCC to operate a commercial D2D system. Today, Lynk allows mobile network operators' subscribers to send and receive text messages to and from space via standard unmodified, mobile devices. Lynk's service has been tested and proven on
  • all seven continents, has regulatory approvals in more than 30 countries and is currently being deployed commercially based on more than 40 MNO commercial service contracts covering approximately 50 countries.

Responsibilities

  • Lynk is developing cellular-based space payloads and seeks a Wireless Engineer to design and implement feeder link modems for Lynk's spacecraft and ground systems.
  • Design and implement digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms and wireless protocols in the PHY and MAC layers.
  • Deliver performant and robust production code targeted to software-defined radio (SDR) platforms using single-board computers and/or FPGAs.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of software defined radios - SDRs and their implementation.
  • Experience using test equipment like signal generators, spectrum analyzers, etc.
  • Deep understanding of communication theory and signal processing related algorithms design, such as filter design, clock recovery, signal detection, channel estimation and equalization, channel coding.
  • Experience with implementing DSP algorithms in HDL, such as SystemVerilog, VHDL is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the 3GPP standards, including LTE and 5G PHY, MAC, and RRC specifications is a plus.
  • Job Location: Chantilly, VA

Nice to have

  • Evaluate the performance of algorithms in simulation (e.g., MATLAB, Python) prior to implementation.
  • Work with cross-functional teams across RF, electronics, and hardware domains to integrate, benchmark, and debug payload software and communications systems.
  • Debug production issues in conjunction with the operations team to rapidly resolve complex software and hardware anomalies in orbit or on the ground.
  • A Master's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of some communications and networking standards, such as DVB-S2/DVB-S2X, and protocols, such as TCP/IP, UDP, ZeroMQ, Ethernet, etc.
  • Experience with C/C++, Python, MATLAB for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation.
  • Strong knowledge of software defined radios
  • SDRs and their implementation.
