About the role

Responsibilities
- Lead and expand renewable energy projects and initiatives through the development, implementation, coordination, and execution of renewable energy initiatives at the Otipemisiwak Métis Government including origination, design, funding, construction, operation and reporting.
- Identify, plan, fund, implement, and report on renewable energy projects under the Climate Change Action Plan, and support of energy efficiency retrofits, and other sustainability measures.
- Maintain renewable energy performance and an evaluations portfolio to measure energy use and generation to ensure energy and sustainability benchmarks are met.
- Request and evaluate bids from potential contractors and/or consultants, provide recommendations to senior leadership, and manage proposals to meet goals of projects and initiatives.
- Manage project contractors and consultants, oversee site plans and contracts, manage site visits and project work, and verify completion and final execution of project work.
- Lead grant proposals and partnerships planning, funding, implementation and reporting in relation to renewable energy initiatives.
- Prepare various reports and documents including briefing notes, presentations, and project reports for senior leadership, community, and funders.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills, including excellent report writing skills and the ability to produce professional documents and presentations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with internal teams and external community partners.
- Ability to manage contractors and consultants for multiple sites and projects.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, engineering, renewable energy, business, project management, or a closely related field.
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in a role leading or implementing renewable energy projects, including large-scale renewable energy projects.
- Experience with strategic planning, including establishing short- and long-term plans to meet key objectives of projects or initiatives.
- Experience with grant/funding proposals, work plans, and budgeting.
- Experience with solar energy systems and energy management planning.
- Knowledge of the Alberta utilities market and renewable energy industry.
- Experience working in governments or non-profits is an asset.
- in-office presence is required.
- Ability to travel within Alberta.
- Acceptable attainment of a Police Information Check is required.
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, engineering, renewable energy, business, project management, or a closely related field. A combination of education and experience with concepts of renewable energy, energy management, or related will be considered.
- Relevant credentials and/or certifications will be considered assets: Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Energy Manager in Training (EMIT), Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Project Management Professional (PMP), or other similar certifications, and willingness to pursue additional certifications and training.
- Other Requirements
- Position is based in either Edmonton or Calgary
- Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm, with availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as required.
- Occasional overtime. Management positions are exempt from overtime pay.
- Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Driver's License.
