About the role
- FWD.us is a policy organization working to advance better and more politically resilient solutions on criminal justice and immigration.
- For too long, our harmful criminal justice and immigration systems have held us back and been weaponized in ways that undermine our nation's promise and democratic ideals.
- Our criminal justice reform and crimmigration research team is seeking a detail-oriented critical thinker with strong research and writing skills for a paid, 25-30 hour per week internship supporting our work.
Requirements
- Must have a strong interest in policy, government, and/or community organizing.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to adapt to new conditions, assignments, and deadlines.
- Other Helpful Experience (Not Required):
- Knowledge of criminal justice system data.
- Knowledge of immigration court, arrest, detention data.
- Previous experience with data scraping and other public data acquisition methods.
- We do not conduct criminal background checks on applicants, unless required by state or federal law for specific roles.

Nice to have
- Participate in ongoing quantitative research, writing, data collection, and analysis.
- Prior experience in quantitative research strongly preferred.
- Engage in legislative and background research on laws, policies, academic research, and publicly-available data.
- Assist with monitoring media outlets, legislative news, and other public information sources to inform timely and relevant products.
- Assist with administrative tasks when necessary.
