About the role

  • The engineer will be responsible for ensuring that the satellite's mechanical and thermal systems function optimally under the extreme conditions of space, safeguarding both the spacecraft and laser systems.
  • Materials Selection: Select materials for mechanical and thermal subsystems that can withstand the harsh conditions of space, including extreme temperatures, vacuum, and radiation.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with optical engineers, electrical engineers, and systems engineers to integrate the laser system and other components into the satellite.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement thermal control strategies to maintain operational temperatures for satellite components, including the 1-kilowatt laser.
  • Identify and implement active and passive thermal control systems, such as radiators, heat pipes, and insulation.
  • Create detailed technical documentation and reports for design reviews, manufacturing processes, and testing results.

  • Design and analyze mechanical structures, ensuring they meet the required strength, weight, and stability specifications for satellite deployment.

  • Use simulation tools to predict thermal and mechanical behavior in various space environments (e.g., orbital and launch conditions).
