About the role
- The Journeyperson Electrician is responsible for the installation, termination, testing and maintenance of conduit systems, wiring, electrical equipment, panels, sensors and control devices in compliance with applicable codes, standards and safety regulations.
- This role involves the fabrication and assembly of electrical control panels and control systems, including interlock wiring, system verification and functional checkout.
- Interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and specifications to plan and carry out electrical installation, maintenance and repair work.
Responsibilities
- The Journeyperson Electrician ensures all electrical and control systems are installed accurately and commissioned to support safe, reliable and efficient operation.
- Troubleshoot, maintain and repair electrical power and control circuits, including motors and associated control devices.
- Complete, update and maintain accurate work orders, maintenance records, inspection reports and technical documentation.
- Lead and perform electrical isolation, lockout/tagout (LOTO) and energized work assessments in accordance with company safety programs and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to hazardous materials and excessive noise levels in the workplace.
- Must have the physical ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 35 lbs.
- Must have the ability to stand for extended periods throughout each shift.
- Manual dexterity is required to effectively operate tools and equipment.
- Assess electrical hazards and ensure required permits, controls and safe work practices are implemented prior to performing work.
- Train, direct and support junior employees and apprentices and inspect and certify work quality as required.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately read, interpret and apply information from blueprints, schematics, diagrams, drawings, manuals and technical specifications.
- In ‑ depth working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and applicable regulatory and safety standards.
- Ability to apply code requirements to electrical installations, system modifications and troubleshooting activities.
Skills
- Ensure proper use, inspection, care and storage of tools, test instruments and assigned equipment.

- Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for electrical power distribution, control circuits and motor control systems.
