About the role
- Reporting to the President, this role will be responsible for complex accounting, financial reporting, technical accounting, process improvements, and supporting audit and compliance activities across multiple business entities.
- The successful candidate is a collaborative finance professional with strong technical accounting knowledge, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- The ideal candidate will be from the Midland and surrounding area or within a reasonable commuting distance.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes
- Support external audits by preparing schedules, responding to audit requests, and coordinating with auditors
- Partner with operational leaders to provide financial analysis and accounting guidance
- Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes, reporting, automation, and internal controls
- Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned by the Controller
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting tight deadlines
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- Active CPA designation (CPA Canada) required
- Strong knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and/or IFRS
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, internal controls, and technical accounting
- Ability to leverage AI tools and effective prompting techniques to improve efficiency, reporting quality, and analytical output
- Experience & Skills
- 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a multi-entity environment
- Experience supporting external audits and preparing year-end financial statements
- Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite experience is considered a strong asset)
- Assist with corporate tax, sales tax, and regulatory compliance reporting as required
