About the role

  • A Superintendent is responsible for directing all earthwork, installations, and construction activities on projects.
  • This includes maintaining the highest levels of safety, quality, documentation, and communication with all trade and field personnel.
  • Whitaker, an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company, has become one of the largest contractors in the intermountain area with more than 600 employees and nearly 70 crews.

Responsibilities

  • Read and understand plans, specifications, and local building codes.
  • Comply with and document environmental permits and inspections.
  • Maintain a general knowledge of equipment used on the job including basic understanding of equipment limits and designed purposes.
  • Ensures the employee understands the review, signs the review form(s), and is provided a copy for their own records.
  • Maintain professional attitude with owners, inspectors, public, and company personnel.

Requirements

  • Schedules and documents all required inspections, quality testing, or other compliance requirements.
  • Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.).
  • 5+ years of Construction/Project Management experience in a civil construction environment
  • Knowledge of Heavy Civil Construction processes and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) & other computer skills.
  • Experienced in scheduling, ordering materials, field supervision, safety management, quality control, and budgeting of all phases of civil construction.
  • Strong attention to detail including good analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise earthwork/site work construction projects from general plans and instructions given and to determine the proper amounts of various materials, tools, and personal equipment needed.
  • Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment operated.
  • Ability to read engineering plans and blueprints.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is strongly preferred.

Compensation

  • Complete 20 hours per year of continued education relating to our field.
