About the role
- A Superintendent is responsible for directing all earthwork, installations, and construction activities on projects.
- This includes maintaining the highest levels of safety, quality, documentation, and communication with all trade and field personnel.
- Whitaker, an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company, has become one of the largest contractors in the intermountain area with more than 600 employees and nearly 70 crews.
Responsibilities
- Read and understand plans, specifications, and local building codes.
- Comply with and document environmental permits and inspections.
- Maintain a general knowledge of equipment used on the job including basic understanding of equipment limits and designed purposes.
- Ensures the employee understands the review, signs the review form(s), and is provided a copy for their own records.
- Maintain professional attitude with owners, inspectors, public, and company personnel.
Requirements
- Schedules and documents all required inspections, quality testing, or other compliance requirements.
- Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.).
- 5+ years of Construction/Project Management experience in a civil construction environment
- Knowledge of Heavy Civil Construction processes and industry standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) & other computer skills.
- Experienced in scheduling, ordering materials, field supervision, safety management, quality control, and budgeting of all phases of civil construction.
- Strong attention to detail including good analytical and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to supervise earthwork/site work construction projects from general plans and instructions given and to determine the proper amounts of various materials, tools, and personal equipment needed.
- Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment operated.
- Ability to read engineering plans and blueprints.
Nice to have
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is strongly preferred.
