Responsibilities

  • Creating validated 3D models, 2D drawings, and supplier spec sheets utilizing the standard design process.
  • Leading Design Reviews for your responsible parts to show how your design achieves its function and targets.
  • Developing counter-measures to gaps such as cost, mass, durability, strength, and warranty rate based on data and engineering mindset.
  • Building relationships with key stakeholders (such as vehicle design, TMC driveline design, Supplier Development teams, purchasing, and assembly plants).
  • Improving PDE's design process capability to improve quality and on-time delivery.
  • Benchmarking similar designs to improve our customer experience and cost.

  • Toyota's Powertrain Design (PDE) team is looking for a passionate, highly-motivated Design Engineer with an interest in Driveline systems to help develop a multitude of torque transferring components.
  • Within the first two years, the primary responsibilities of this role are to support the design of
  • Working with Supplier and Vehicle Plants to support trials and ensure a smooth product/vehicle launch.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (or above) with a Mechanical Engineering or related technical disciplines.
  • Must have minimum of 3+ years in automotive design/development (co-op/internships will be considered).
  • Knowledge of typical automotive manufacturing methods (i.e. Aluminum and Iron Castings, Forgings, Machining, Thermoplastics, and Rubber Molding).
  • Experience with a level of proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Periodically and peak periods you must be willing to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.
  • Hands-on experience with driveline/powertrain assemblies.
  • Experience with Catia, FEA, Vehicle NVH, and Vehicle Simulations.
  • A working knowledge of Quality Management and Supply Chain Management principles.
  • Detailed knowledge of Transfer Case design, Evaluation, Spec setting, etc.
  • Experience utilizing CAD tools and applying GD&T to support product design and manufacturability.
  • Experience in the detailed design and release of prototype and production component drawings and supplier spec sheets.
  • Strong knowledge of conventional, hybrid and electrified drivelines.
  • Current working schedule adheres to the Toyota return to office policy. Onsite presence Monday - Thursday, and the option for remote Friday.

  • Detailed knowledge Propeller Shafts, Driveshafts, and Differentials.

  • Who we're looking for
  • Within the first two years, the primary responsibilities of this role are to support the design of Driveline components for all vehicle types, including Electrified Powertrains by: Collaborating with stakeholders, such as suppliers, Purchasing, Toyota manufacturing plants, Vehicle Design groups, and Toyota Japan through:
  • Simultaneous Engineering with potential suppliers, including visits to their manufacturing plant.
  • Issue of Toyota owned drawings and/or supplied parts specifications.
  • Working with customer facing groups to ensure no issues for customer vehicles.
  • Working with North America Manufacturing Centers and local NA suppliers to improve driveline quality by identifying customer issues, investigating root causes, and implementing counter-measures.
  • Reporting to the Driveline Design Manager, the person in this role will support the PDE department's objective to build "World Class Powertrains in North America"
