About the role
- Our small but agile Business Development team plays a leading role in our organization as the face for all new clients and project opportunities.
- We regularly work with leading owners, architects and contractors from around North America and Europe.
- We are looking for a Mass Timber Estimator, with a focus on estimating and related tasks.
Responsibilities
- Leverage your understanding of the mass timber market to develop mass timber supplier relationships, understanding supply chain information such as costing, availability, species, lead times, certifications, etc.
- Use this to inform your judgment in developing quick estimates.
- Work with SC Engineering department and BD Engineers to support project clients and relationships throughout the consulting/preconstruction phase (where SC is EOR), with engineering/estimating support, technical constructability support and contractor communication.
- Work with SC shop and mass timber carpenters to develop labour estimates.
- Work with SC site personnel to develop site estimates for mass timber construction.
- Create and communicate preliminary budgets and proposals, understanding the client needs and key project constraints.
- Leverage your understanding of mass timber materials and technical specs to perform accurate, detailed and presentable material takeoffs.
- Develop a concise but comprehensive sales estimate of costs for the project.
- Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors for pricing and lead time.
- Develop and maintain estimate and proposal templates.
Requirements
- Knowledge of mass-timber product supply chain is an asset Significant experience with Excel, development of smart spreadsheets.
- Experience with Bluebeam.
- Experience working with 3D modelling software such as Rhino/AutoCAD an asset.
- Detailed personality with an eye for accuracy, data organization, ability to multi-task, service-oriented.
Nice to have
- Preferred 3 years of experience in mass timber industry, estimating mass timber buildings.
Skills
- Develop and grow estimating proformas & database.

- The BD team has a wide range of responsibilities including initial client contact, generating and tracking leads, estimating and proposals, conceptual engineering, and other preconstruction tasks prior to the successful award and handover of a project.
