Responsibilities
- Own the design, deployment, and operation of MongoDB's global network infrastructure Cisco Meraki, including routers, switches, firewalls,access points and IOT sensors
- Lead the rollout and ongoing management of Palo Alto Prisma Access as MongoDB's SASE, in partnership with InfoSec
- Partner with InfoSec to implement and continuously improve network security controls, including VLAN configuration, firewall rules, DNS, DHCP, and IDS/IPS solutions
- Design and deploy network infrastructure for new and existing global office sites, partnering with Real Estate, workplace, AV, and Physical Security teams
- Build automation to reduce manual network operations work and improve reliability and observability
- Balance long-term network architecture work with day-to-day operational support
- Ability to use iterative designs to PoC and deploy new network solution based on company problems
- You'll design, deploy, and troubleshoot network and VPN solutions, including Palo Alto Prisma Access at global scale, partner with InfoSec to harden network security, and mentor engineers across the team.
- Solid understanding of enterprise network design and cloud networking best practices (High availability, VLAN, DHCP, DNS, IP subnetting, firewall rules)
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- 6+ years of experience in network or systems engineering, with a strong grasp of networking fundamentals (OSI model, routing, switching, IP subnetting, cabling, wireless)
- Hands-on experience with network dashboards and platforms such as Cisco Meraki and HPE Aruba
- Experience implementing and managing VPN and secure access solutions such as Palo Alto Prisma Access, Cloudfare IPSEC L2TP and Cisco secure client / anyconnect
- Experience with network authentication technologies such as FoxPass, LDAP, and Okta (SAML)
- Experience partnering with InfoSec, Physical Security, and Workplace teams on cross-functional network initiatives
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to a wide range of audiences
- Experience with network documentation such as rack elevation, patching matrices and network topologies at a layer 2 and layer 3 level
- There will be requirements from time to time to work across multiple time zones as required by the business, including travel
Nice to have
- CCNA, CCNP, Meraki Solutions specialist, or equivalent networking certification
- Experience mentoring other network or systems engineers
- Familiarity with MDM and endpoint tools such as JAMF and Workspace ONE (AirWatch)
- Experience working directly with ISPs and external vendors to resolve complex connectivity issues
- This role is based in Palo Alto / San Francisco, CA, and candidates should be located within reasonable commuting distance of our Palo Alto and San Francisco offices
- Success Measures
- In 6 months, you will: Have led at least one medium-scale network or VPN project end to end, such as a Palo Alto Prisma Access rollout or office network upgrade, and implemented measurable network security improvements
- In 12 months, you will: Be recognized as a senior technical owner for MongoDB's global network, having led large-scale infrastructure projects and mentored other engineers on the team
