About the role
- The Controller for Thrivent Bank is responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the Bank's financial & regulatory reporting, accounting operations, and internal controls.
- This role plays a critical leadership position in strengthening controls, scaling processes, and enabling transparency across the Bank.

Responsibilities
- Leads all accounting operations for Thrivent Bank, including general ledger, month ‑ end and quarter ‑ end close, financial reporting, call reporting and balance sheet governance.
- Oversees internal controls over financial reporting, including documentation, testing support, issue remediation, and continuous improvement of control effectiveness.
- Serves as a key partner to Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit, and external auditors; coordinates audits, examinations, and regulatory requests.
- Partners with Treasury, FP&A, and business leaders to support forecasting, capital planning, liquidity reporting, and strategic decision ‑ making.
- Leads, coaches, and develops a high ‑ performing accounting team; establishes clear expectations, builds capability, and ensures appropriate succession planning.
- Drives process standardization, automation, and continuous improvement to improve efficiency, scalability, and data quality.
- Maintains strong governance over accounting policies, procedures, and documentation.

Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA required.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, in cluding leadership roles within banking or financial services.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Demonstrated experience leading month ‑ end close, audits, and regulatory interactions.
- Strong judgment, attention to detail, and ability to navigate complex issues with sound recommendations
- Experience in a regulated banking environment.
- Prior experience partnering with regulators, external auditors, and enterprise risk teams.
- Experience with system implementations, accounting automation, or process transformation initiatives.
- Advanced degree (MBA or Master's in Accounting ).

Compensation
- We accomplish this by offering a wide variety of market competitive compensation programs to attract, reward, and retain top talent.
- The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $153,750.00 - $208,015.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions.
- The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
